Service Description: These areas are only susceptible during a large storm event (5 inches or more of rain in a 24 hour period or equivalent). This model output shows areas susceptible to the initiation and run-out of channelized debris flows. Notably, no attempt is made to model the area beyond the pour point of the debris flow. This area, down slope from the pour point is where deposition begins and is call the deposit. This is where the majority of destruction occurs from a debris flow, but is unfortunately outside the scope of this model. This model also produces significantly more false positives than true positives. Created by the North Carolina Geological Survey a section of the NC Department of Environmental Quality.
